Guest Post: Article Marketing (5 Tips For Boosting Your Article Popularity)

By Steve Shaw

You’ve done the hard work of writing and submitting an article, and now you’re wondering if there’s anything that you can do after the fact that will bring more attention it.

Actually, there are several article marketing strategies that can help boost your article’s popularity, most of which can be set to function automatically, saving you time and also increasing the effectiveness of your article submissions.

Here are 5 extra ways to publicize your articles:

1 – Facebook and Twitter

These two social media titans are excellent places to share your articles. Don’t worry that it’s going to take a lot of time or that you need to remember to update your Facebook and Twitter accounts when you publish an article.

There is no remembering or work involved if you set things up using a free service like TwitterFeed.

With TwitterFeed, you can use your article RSS feed to automatically update your Twitter and Facebook accounts whenever you publish a new article. You can even program the text that will precede the link to your article to something like, “Here’s my latest article” or something similar.

Most likely your favourite article directory will offer an RSS feed for your articles. This feed is an easy way for you to market your articles after they are already published on the directory.

2 – Automatically updating your blog and website

It’s a great idea to use your article RSS feed to post automatic updates to your blog and your website. On your blog you can set things up so that your latest article titles and excerpts (along with a link back to that article ) appear in the side bar. Also, on your website, you may devote a page to your most recent articles.

That way, anyone who is looking at your site or blog can easily locate the helpful content that you’ve created. You are also building valuable backlinks to your articles, which helps with search engine rankings.

3 – Use bookmarking sites like Delicious, Digg, StumbleUpon, and such.

At your favorite article directory there is most likely a tool that will allow you to promote your articles to the various bookmarking sites directly from the article directory. Alternatively, you can also go straight to the bookmarking site to recommend your content.

When you bookmark an article or other piece of online content you are saying to others, “Hey, take a look at this. I recommend it to you.”

This can be a great help in gaining exposure for your articles–just be sure to also make recommendation to other pieces of content that are not your own. Otherwise it can hurt your credibility if it appears that you’re just recommending your own writing.

4 – Article updates to your Squidoo lens

A Squidoo lens is basically a web page that you create on some aspect of your topic.

With your written content you can include photos, surveys, and all sorts of interesting things. One thing that you can also add is a section that is automatically updated with the title, short description and link to your latest articles. Again, you use your article RSS feed to generate these auto updates.

5 – The resource boxes of your articles

You might not have considered this before, but you might try linking to a previous related article from your resource box. When you create the link, use the keyword phrase you’ve targeted in the other article as anchor text for the link. It’s worth a try!

Article marketing is a very multidimensional tool for publicizing your website and for gaining a higher ranking in search engines. When you think of all the ways you can use your articles after they are already published, it’s amazing to contemplate how writing one article can have such far reaching effects.

Which of these easy tips will you use to increase your article popularity?
